On June 4th, Mt Zion joined siblings from Lake Park Lutheran, All Peo-ple’s Lutheran, and other Reconciling in Christ congregations of the Greater Milwaukee Synod to show our support for our LGBTQIA+ community.
Reaching out to the LGBTQIA+ community is important, as Pastor Tyler reminded us in his sermon. "I can’t tell you how many people saw that sign and yelled, 'Thank you,' or were nearly in tears after reading it. I can’t tell you how many people came up and asked, 'Where’s your church? Would I really be welcome there?' Because you know what? They’ve been told they aren’t welcome in churches. That message has been proclaimed loudly to them. We’re RIC because there is a particular group of people in this country who need to hear us say, unambiguously, 'You are a reflection of God’s image, worthy of life and love.' Even after the Pride Parade, as I was having a bite to eat, people were still coming up to ask, 'Do you really welcome people like me in your congregations?' These people are hungering and thirsting for good news!"
As a Reconciling in Christ congregation, Mt Zion intentionally creates a welcoming space for all of our LGBTQIA+ siblings where everyone is welcome and accepted in the Church. We are committed to share God’s love for every beautiful work of divine art — not only during pride month, but every month. Every day.
