In our sanctuary, we have a "Prayground" where children are encouraged to worship at their own level. When children are able to participate in worship - whether it's joining in a song, dancing, praying the Lord's Prayer, or - for our youngest worshippers - just shouting "Amen!" at the end of prayers - we encourage parents and guardians to help them participate. But when it's the sermon or a part of worship with a lot of words to read, this is a space where children can play quietly, color, or read a Bible story. By providing a space in the sanctuary for play, children continue to observe our worship while engaging it at their level.
However, sometimes a child needs a break from worship and a space to nap, run around, or possibly have a diaper change. For that, we have a nursery nearby. Though our nursery is currently unstaffed, parents do not have to miss worship while using it. There's a TV right in the nursery to catch every moment of the service until they and their children have burnt off their energy and are ready to return to worship. Don't want to miss that final song and dance!
