Sunday school at Mt Zion is for children age 3 to 5th grade. From fall to spring, we help the children grow in faith every Sunday morning at 10:20 a.m.
Our hope for the youngest children is that they simply learn the stories and practices of faith. Each week they gather to explore a story of faith, learn simple things like how to pray or a song of praise, and have fun playing.
Our elementary children get to enjoy a wonderful thing called "Rotation Sunday School". For three weeks, we explore the same Bible story for multiple perspectives, using art, science, music, food, theater, video, writing, and storytelling to help us experience God's grace. After three weeks digging into the same story, we take the fourth week as a service week, doing something to help out others and share the grace God has given us.
By the time children have made it through Sunday school, we hope they will be filled with the wonder of Scripture, have learned the basics of faith like the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, the Ten Commandments, and what the Sacraments are, plus have some basic skills in the marks of discipleship.
